There is no rush to find the perfect word to set the tone for 2025. This is all about going deeper within yourself to choose a word that will guide you to a more peaceful, balanced existence. Start the process by asking yourself a few questions, including what you may need (or need to let go of) to have a more fulfilling life. By being completely honest with yourself, you can make 2025 different.
In the past couple of years, we have asked Balance Fitness clients to choose a word for the year to help guide them in their decision making and choices across all areas of their life. Many of them took this exercise quite seriously, and it stayed with them much longer than making New Year’s resolutions. The words were all printed out and put up on the wall near the entrance of the studio. They were placed there anonymously and provided a large visual for everyone to see. It was a physical reminder every time they walked in for a training session or class, and not only did they see their own word up on the wall, but they also saw everyone else’s choice of inspiration.
A “pie of life” chart represents the many areas we tend to focus on when viewing the big picture. Health, friends, family, career, spirituality, personal growth, finances, and recreation/leisure are all a part of this pie. When choosing a word, consider which of these areas may need your attention in the upcoming year.
Questions To Ask Yourself Before Choosing Your Focus Word
It’s easy to focus on words just because they catch our eye, but 2025 is all about making intentional choices. The best way to pick a theme that aligns with how you feel is to lean into self-reflection. You can ask yourself prompts like:
- What did I absolutely love about 2024?
- What lessons did I learn?
- Did I stick to a budget or achieve other money goals?
- Was I stressed a lot this year? If so, why?
- Will I stay in my home or plan to move?
- How do I want to feel in my body?
- Do I have toxic relationships in my life?
- What have I been wanting to do but keep putting off?
- What events of 2024 influenced me the most and why?
You deserve to focus on what you want, not what society pressures you to feel. Whatever you do, don’t overthink this. Ask some questions, consider your answers, and go with what comes to mind first. If you care to share, we will add your word to the 2025 Word Wall. Looking forward to hearing from you!
